What is EAP?Equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is an innovative experiential method of providing therapy or learning activities using horses to aid in the process. Previous research in this field has found that EAP is effective in clinical populations, specifically people who have suffered abuse, and children and adolescents with emotional and/or behavioural problems. EAP has been found to: - decrease depression - reduce psychological stress - improve psychological wellbeing - reduce trait anxiety - increase self-esteem and internal locus of control The therapeutic approach to EAP allows client behaviours and emotions to surface quickly, allowing for the treatment to be more effective over a shorter period of time. |
